Join the Matheson Museum’s Fall Festival on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 1-4 pm. This event offers you a chance to experience fall celebrations from around the world, enjoy autumn traditions, and fall in love with history with tours of the Matheson Museum Complex. Learn how fall is celebrated in Japan with exhibitions and crafts by the University of Florida’s Japanese Club. Explore the traditions of Dia de Muertos with an exhibition by the Institute of Hispanic and Latino Culture. Take part in the celebration with a lesson and performance by Gainesville International Folk Dancers. Enjoy fall traditions with a historic twist. Get into the Halloween spirit with storytelling by Caryl McKellar. Decorate pumpkin and discover your own destiny with fortune-telling by the Gainesville Tarot Guild. All while enjoying the brisk autumn weather in Sweetwater Park. The Matheson Museum’s Fall Festival is a celebration of the historical richness of Gainesville. Visitors will have an opportunity to take a guided tour of the Matheson House. The Matheson House is the second oldest home in Gainesville and the former residence of Gainesville’s longest serving mayor Christopher Matheson. Enjoy an expert-led tour of the Tison Tool which houses a collection of over 500 tools which tell the story of the industries that invented and reinvented Gainesville. Browse the Matheson Museum’s temporary exhibition entitled the Matheson Museum Family Tree which commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the Matheson Museum. This event is free and open to the public.
