The Cape Canaveral Lighthouse has stood on the cape for over 150 years, having been constructed and first lighted in 1848.  The lighthouse was designed to be 151 feet tall. Its beam shines approximately 22 nautical miles and continues to be a working lighthouse today. The first tower, built of brick, was just 65 feet tall. After many mariners voiced their concern that this structure was not tall enough to sufficiently warn ships of the abundance of shoals just off the cape shores, the government approved construction of the current tower, which was then completed in 1868 with its first light May 10,1868.

In the late 1890's, it was moved to a site one mile inland because of shoreline erosion.  This is the site where it lies today and is maintained by the 45th Space Wing and supported by the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Foundation.

This lighthouse may be viewed by per-arranged tours.  Please visit this site to book yours!
